After a long winter preparation period, Primož’s season began in Italy at the Tirreno-Adriatico, one of the most important stage races in the early part of the season. The race, which connects the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic Seas, has been the scene of his successes on several occasions. He won the Trident in 2019 and 2023. This year’s performance was also the first real indicator of form before the main part of the season. Opening time trial The race began with an 11.5-kilometer time trial in Lido di Camaiore, where Filippo Ganna celebrated victory. Primož opened the season with a good performance and finished in 7th place, which was a solid starting position for the rest of the race. After the winter break, this was primarily the first contact with the racing rhythm and an opportunity for the body to get used to the intensity of the competition again. Challenging days and dynamic stages The following stages brought dynamic terrain, demanding finishes and also some unpredictable moments. The race was very open this year, with very small differences in the overall score. Younger cyclists often found themselves in the forefront, which, according to Primož, shows how quickly the new generation in world cycling is developing. The fight for the overall classification Towards the end of the race, the dynamic stages in the Apennines were decisive. Primož raced prudently throughout the week and above all with the idea of gradually building his form in mind. Tirreno-Adriatico often serves as the first serious test before spring goals and big stage races. A good start to a long season With 5th place in the overall classification won, the week in Italy brought important kilometers, a feeling for racing and the first answers about his form. The season is still long. Tirreno-Adriatico was only the first step on the way towards the biggest goals of the year.
