Home roads, home fans and the national time trial champion’s jersey

At the end of June, Dolenjska hosted this year’s Slovenian National Road Championships, bringing Primož back to home roads and in front of home fans. The racing weekend in the Novo mesto area began with Friday’s time trial in Karteljevo and continued with Sunday’s road race in Gabrje pod Gorjanci. Primož rode Friday’s time trial in his own style. On the 28.8-kilometre course, he set the fastest pace from the very beginning and held it all the way to the finish. With a time of 34:25.49 and an average speed of 50.2 km/h, he convincingly claimed the title of Slovenian national champion in the time trial. Roman Ermakov finished second, with Jakob Omrzel in third. For Primož, the victory in Karteljevo was a special moment. Not only because of the national champion’s jersey, but also because of his return to the Slovenian National Championships and the support that followed him along the course. Home roads always carry a different kind of energy, and this time they also brought another victory and the Slovenian colours for his future time trial appearances. On Sunday, the racing moved to Gabrje, where the riders were met by heat, a demanding course and strong competition. In challenging conditions, Primož rode actively and fought in the chase, but the leader’s advantage proved too big. He finished the road race in 4th place, behind winner Roman Ermakov, Jakob Omrzel and Tilen Finkšt. The Slovenian National Championships in Novo mesto were a weekend of contrasts: a convincing victory in the time trial, a tough road race and, above all, plenty of home support. After a demanding first part of the season, racing on home roads was a welcome reminder of why competing in Slovenia always holds a special place. Home roads. Home fans. The national champion’s jersey. We ROG ON!
